In 1879 the Reverend T. R. Prentiss began conducting religious services among the people
of North Indianapolis. Worship services were first conducted in the various homes of the community.
The work of Reverend Prentiss came to the attention of a good friend and benefactor,
Mr. Albert A. Barnes who gave substantial financial aid and donated the lot for the first church.
Barnes is one of the historic churches in Marion County. We have a rich tradition and heritage of
service to the Indianapolis community. As "Disciples of Christ", we seek to serve all people through
nurturing, witness and outreach.
Rev. Charles R. Harrison has been the pastor of Barnes since 1993. He continues the great tradition
of pastors whose lives are woven into the history of this congreation. Under his leadership,
Barnes continues to provide a place for all to worship, fellowship, and grow spirtually.
His vision for Barnes is to become one of the leading churches in the city of Indianapolis
through outreach and mission. Under his leadership, Barnes continues to provide a place for all to
worship, to minister to the needs of the community, grow spirtually, and nurture all who desire to
be drawn closer to the Lord.
